Welcome again to Transformation Thursday! This week is the one year anniversary of celebrating getting stuff done! No matter if this is your first time or if you've been here for the entire time, everyone is welcome! To celebrate, we're reposting our favorite posts - but you can link up with whatever you have. No worries! Just hook up with the Linky below. If you want the button, you can find it in the sidebar --->
This is one of my favorite posts, which was way back last July -
so some of you might not have seen this one before.
It's still in my kitchen, as you all saw last week.

I really hope you enjoy it!
Being a writer, I love all things associated with words. I love Scrabble.....old hand written love notes...and I have been coveting those big beautiful wooden letters I see in magazines and on some of your lovely blogs. I saw a couple of them at the flea market this weekend, but I knew that they were wayyyyy outta my price range. But you know you can make them, right?
Luckily, our last name starts with the letter "L." Easiest letter in the alphabet to make! Straight lines, no curves -- just what I need! I began by taking another scrap of 1x12, straight out of the pile. Next I made my pattern (no measuring needed) by using another piece of wood and a speed square (the triangle with the lip makes straight lines so easy.)
To save time, I used the table saw to make the straight lines until I got within about 3 or 4 inches of the inside corner on both sides.
Using the jigsaw, I continued cutting into the corner.
Just keep it level and guide it slowly -- don't push. Let it do the work.

Once you're all cut out, then sand away! Make everything smooth, including the front & back, so the paint goes on all pretty and the edges aren't rough.
Next came the layers of paint. First black spray paint....
Then ivory spray paint.... {Don't ya just love my spray painting studio?}
Then lots of that creamy tan, brushed on, then smoothed around with a little water. All the layers start to peek through, working together in unison.
Last, but certainly not least, was the magic potion. I love raw umber acrylic paint. Thin it out with water, then rub it on gently with your fingers in long strokes. The magic? It makes anything "age" about 20 years in about 2 minutes. Oh, and it's dirt cheap -- about $2 for a huge tube at the craft store {which will do about a gazillion projects.}
It feels right at home in my kitchen, along side a print by the lovely "Olive Rue." The frame was a 25 cent yard sale find, which held a watercolor in a pink mat, which I painted the same creamy tan. Those dime each vases were relocated to bring a little bling into the mix. The birds that used to grace my fireplace also found a new home.
After the first attempt turned out so well, I'm almost inclined to do more --
I do have a big space on the other wall in my kitchen......
