Southern Snowballs

We don't get much snow here in the grand old south during December. We rarely see snow until after the new year. I haven't seen a white Christmas since I was a little girl, so I finally decided to do something about it.

Back in the summer when I lucked upon a bag full of wrapped styrofoam balls for $1, it was a sweet deal, since there was a couple of dozen in there. Even if you have to get new ones, they're pretty cheap at craft stores. You'll also need some spray adhesive ($3 at Lowe's) and fake snow ($2 at Lowe's).

Use a skewer or chopstick to give the stryofoam ball a handle. Next, give it a good spray all over with your adhesive and let it set for a couple of minutes to get tacky (this is an important step - take my hard learned advice).

Twirl it all around in your snow, using your hand to help it pack it onto your balls.

Shake off your excess and decorate to your heart's content.

If you've been enjoying my Christmas tutorials all week, there are eight great gift & wrapping tutorials in my new book, Christmas Cheats, available in my Etsy Shop.

It's been quite a few years ago that I saw directions to make snowballs using some other material for the snow. I can't remember now what it was, but I never could find the stuff at Michael's, so I gave up. Your version is not only cute, but much easier...and easier to find the materials. Thanks!

Gina,
I just wanted to say that your blog is fantastic and thank you for allowing me to link to your Transformation Thursday, even though I did not do it right, still getting used to Mr Linky, but your site gave me traffic that I have never had before. Thanks for sharing your ideas and the opportunity for others to share theirs too :)
PS. Can you pls email me your address again for the scarf, I lost the original email you sent me.
Thanks a bunches and I hope you get tons of snow this year :) If not maybe I can send you some from here.

I love this idea...I am making foam wreaths with white boas...copying a friend...and I think these would be an adorable and cheaper way to decorate them!

They're too cute! I don't know where you live in the south, but we're expecting a wintery mix on Saturday...can you believe that? Also, like your candles.

Those are so adorable and I love how you have them displayed! At least you get snow, we never get snow here. I shouldn't say never because it's snowed here when I was a year old and then again when I was 15. Every winter I hope it will be the year that it snows again!

Oh... cute! I found some styrofoam balls at Salvation Army one day and wondered what to do with them. I even had some of that snow in my hands one day but put it back because I thought it might be too much temptation for my 6 & 9 year old boys. I assumed it would be all over the place... but if I glued it on... Great idea!
