Goodwill hoppin'

Ever feel like with marriage, kids and work that you lose that "fun" part of yourself that you once had in college? Yeah, me too. Although I never realized it until Saturday. Krysi, my very best friend from college, came up and we spent the entire day thrifting yesterday. We drove and chatted and got a little shopping in on the side. It started out as a trip to search out Goodwills, because apparently in Alabama they don't have half price day. Who knew I was so lucky? Well it was definitely my lucky day!

In my own town I found this Wedgewood black & white transfer bowl -- for $2.49! I was floored. Such a pretty bowl and it's rare to see a B&W piece in such good shape.

I also found this finial, originally from Kirkland's for a mere 50 cents. I wasn't in love with the color though, so some stone craft paint transformed it to look like a piece from a garden. Hmm... maybe I need to moss it up a bit!

We stopped at a store in Columbia called The Pink Porch. It wasn't far out of the way, just a couple of minutes out on Bear Creek Pike. They had the most adorable things, but nothing that I really needed. I'll have to check back in, though, because the prices were very reasonable and just soooo many cute things.

We also stopped at a barn sale at an antiques place on Carter's Creek Station Road in Columbia. Alas, I had no cash on me, but I'm gonna go back there, too. Great things, great prices and I just loved the way they put displays together. Soooo inspiring!

On to the Goodwill in Spring Hill we went, and I found a couple of great, chunky wood candlesticks for a buck each and 4 yards of burlap for $3. Another great stop.

The best part was just spending time with Krysi & getting away for the day. Next week DH and I are taking a weekend break to go check out Scott's Antique Show in Atlanta. I'm sure I'll have TONS to talk about then!

Oh, and if you didn't figure it out, I found a display I love for that dresser. Bunches of candles and flowers are never a bad choice!

Imagine finding transferware in a Goodwill! I'd be shocked to find anything good in my Goodwill though. It stinks. I like that finial too, and I want to try that stone paint some time. Another thing to add to an already long list of to-dos!

That's it...I'll be shopping my local GoodWill stores all next week on vacation. You have me convinced that I'll love it. The transferware alone got me.

I love the finial. I can't believe you found that for less than a dollar! I'm on the lookout for a couple of these of different sizes--but so far I haven't found any great bargains like yours.

Thanks for sharing your fun with us!
