It's Transformation Thursday here at the Shabby Chic Cottage! Be sure to link your projects at the bottom of the post. This week is about using what you have, so I thought I would post a previous project that used some yard sale scored spindles & a little wood. 
Today I thought we would revisit a project from a couple of months back that was definitely a reader favorite.
My friend Renee & her dad had a yard sale Saturday. Since her dad is a contractor, I knew there would be something right up my alley there. I got nearly 50 spindles of different lengths for $5. A new bathroom sink for $10 and DH got a table for his router for $5.
8 of the spindles were just to short to be a railing, so I made a bench instead. Since I had some spare 1x6's from another project, I (yes, on my own while DH was at work) ripped them down on the table saw and used the cut off saw to make them 6 feet long for the length and 16 inches long for the depth.
I used screws to put the cut off spindles on as legs and cut braces for extra support.
We used a 1/2 inch block for a spacer, so that the water will drain off, since it's going outside.
Then Bre & I painted it in a sky blue. Not bad for about $5 in wood and 2 hours of work. Now we can enjoy it all summer long.

Those legs are incredibly strong, amazingly enough! We have all four, DH, both girls and I have all been on it at once and not even a wobble. I think it's the combination of so many legs and the strong construction with the braces inside on the corners that keep it all together so well.
