Kitchen paintin' blues

It's time again for another Transformation Thursday. It's my little way of having that kick in the pants I need to get stuff done! Feel free to jump in with your makeovers, transformations and great ideas!

A couple of months ago we gutted our kitchen and completely rebuilt the entire thing by hand. One of the biggest parts was building our own custom cabinets, which I painted the same color as the walls, which is the same color as the ceiling, which is the same color as the trim (see the problem?) I had also bought some rope trim to set on top of the back splash. I intended to paint it out the same color, until I did a test strip last night. It just got lost in the white washout.

So, after much contemplation (well, an afternoon's worth while I was at work,) I decided to paint the insets of beadboard on the cupboards and drawers an oceany blue. Once I did that, I decided the rope trim also needed some blue to tie it all in. All the pastels work so well together, even DH loves it!

Not too bad for an hour's worth of work with paint I already had in the cabinet. Gotta love transformations that are so cost effective!

And, for my thifty buddies at Bloggeritaville's Thrifty Thursday, up on top of those shelves are a small collection of vases, each found at various yard sales for a dime each. I love the contrast of the styles and shapes.

Be sure to stop back by tomorrow for the Crazy About Chalkboards Party!

I have two rooms tore apart right now. Slowly putting them together. Your kitchen looks great. I intend on earth tones and touches of red in the kitchen. The bathroom will be the same but haven't decided on the accent color.

I do like the insets being painted a different color then the cabinet itself. It pops now. The rope trim brings your eye upward. Very nice.

Beautiful, I love the blue and all the details. I'm a day late, but I posted last week about the before and after of adding curb appeal to our house.

I got so involved in the chalkboard post, my journal wrecking update and Thrifty Thursday that I'm ages behind! So many carnivals, so little time LOL

I love what you've done with your kitchen - all the way down to the tiny glass tiles. Good choice putting a little color on the cabinets.
