Creating a corkboard

Welcome once again to Transformation Thursday! It's the one day of the week we all get together to celebrate getting stuff done. No matter if you've been coming around for quite a while or this is your first time, everyone is welcome to share their projects, big or small. Just link up at the bottom of this post.

I teased you last week about painting a gold frame that I got at my favorite thrift shop for $1. Welllll... I don't have the before photo (bad Gina!).... but I do have an after! This was an old mirror, and I knew it would make something fabulous. I started to make it into a chalkboard... but that's a little predictable.
After painting out the great frame, I cut a new backer, using the old one as a template. I spread glue all over the back of it with my favorite Speedball roller.
Next, I put a sheet of cork on the backer, then weighed it down with lots of heavy reading material.
Once dry, I popped it back into the frame, and now Lala has a new, snazzy memo board!

Soooo.... whatcha got? I wanna see and so does everybody else! Just put your PERMALINK into the linky, and please link back here so everyone can find the great ideas. DO NOT link to an Etsy shop, online store or other selling venue. Be sure to say hi to your neighbors - it is a party after all. Welllll..... let'er rip, tater chip!

Flavors of fall

A little weekend trip to recharge the soul was wonderful!
Along the way towards the mountains, I saw hints of the leaves beginning to change, which in the south means fall is quickly approaching (even if the heat is still sweltering!)
Seeing all the splendor made me think about colors for fall.
This year I'm letting my tummy lead the way :)
beautiful paprika reds
gorgeous cinnamon browns
yummy mustard yellows
deep eggplant aubergines
warm, creamy oatmeal
a pop of cranberry red
and of course the perfect pumpkin!

There is nothing more beautiful or comforting than a huge Thanksgiving spread, and I figure if all those colors can go together on the table, why not use them in decorating for fall?

Yeah.... I like yummy decorating!
What are your plans for fall?

Transformation Thursday

Welcome once again to Transformation Thursday! It's the one day of the week we all get together to celebrate getting stuff done. No matter if you've been coming around for quite a while or this is your first time, everyone is welcome to share their projects, big or small. Just link up at the bottom of this post.
I wanted to finish my project, I really did - but I have this little redheaded girl that has a birthday tomorrow. Sooo... instead of playing with fabric, paint, and hot glue - I went shopping instead :) Shopping for Bre is always so much fun. My baby is growing up sooo fast! Between cupcakes and Abby inspired goodies - I didn't get done. Oh well.... I'll have a happy 11 year old, right?

But you have something, right? I wanna see and so does everybody else! Please put your PERMALINK into the linky - and DO NOT link to an Etsy shop or selling site. Please visit your party neighbors and say hello, and be sure to link back here so everyone can find the great ideas.
Welllll..... Let'er rip, tater chip!

Reader Favorite Revisited: Pediment from a Picture Frame

Occassionally I like to share older posts that
some newer readers might have missed.
This post is one of the most popular in my archives.
I bought a lovely wooden picture frame, but it broke. It's the story of my life. For some reason, I kept the pieces, because I knew I'd find something to do with them.

When I started painting the house, I decided to completely finish one side at a time, so if I ran out of paint I could get it color matched and no one would see the difference from one side to the next. Color matching gets very close, but it's still not perfect, so it was a planned choice. (I really don't think I'll run out since I have five gallons of paint, though. It's always good to have a "smart" insurance policy.)

Wrapping up the first side meant that I needed to trim out a door that we recently installed but didn't get around to trimming out yet. Said door needed something.... it needed a pediment!
Wanna learn to build one? Of course you do! Measure the width of your door, adding on the combined width of each piece of side trim. Decide how tall you want your pediment, which will depend on the thickness of your broken picture frame multiplied by four. Also find a scrap piece of trim molding (I used left over rope trim) to go along the bottom. Cut your piece of wood to the length and width you need, then cut a 2 inch strip off long ways of the board.

Using glue and nails, attach the two inch strip to the base piece of your pediment. Next cut pieces of your broken frame, if your pediment is 39 inches long, cut them into 3 inch pieces (for the best fit). If you want it more like dental molding, cut them in 1 inch pieces. I wanted mine chunkier, so I cut them wider.

Next, take one piece of trim and put it on the edge, then nail it down. Use the second piece as a spacer and put the third piece in and nail it down. Remove spacer, move to the other side of third piece and rinse and repeat until you get to the end.

Fill in the holes, paint it out, then hang it over your door
And there she is in all her glory! Nearly a year later, it still looks great.

See ya tomorrow night for Transformation Thursday!

The lazy girl's guide to spray painting

How can you get lazier than spray painting? By using a colored primer!

I recently bought a frame that was gold tone, but wanted it black. If you've ever painted gold paint, you know that priming is a necessity, unless you want a pink tone to the color. Soooo... I used this black primer (bought at Hobby Lobby - with a coupon of course!), and it turned out fab. Wanna see? You'll have to wait a couple of more days.... but I couldn't wait to share the tip with ya.
